Israel At War: Hamas in the Bible

If you would like to help Israel during this time, please click this link and select “War Time Help.” We will send your donation in its entirety to Messianic Jewish ministries in Israel in the hardest-hit areas.

Donation Report:

Since our last update, we have received $220 in donations for Israel. So far, we have sent $4,929 for war relief.

Here are the Messianic community’s greatest needs:

Of all the updates we receive, the recurring theme is clear: the Messianic community needs resources to minister to others. Here are the two most pressing needs.

  • Finances to provide care packages for soldiers to meet their needs and to minister the love of Yeshua.
  • Assistance to displaced families forced to evacuate their homes; some are living in tents.

Here is the latest:

  • Hamas still holds at least 222 hostages in Gaza; four hostages have been released in the last week.
  • The IDF is attacking Hamas targets in Gaza (in Israel’s south) while also dealing with attacks across its northern border; so far, a full ground operation in Gaza remains delayed.
  • Rockets from Gaza continue to target Israel’s population centers.
  • Iran is continuing to threaten a larger war.

The news will cover the political aspects of the war. We must remember that there is also a spiritual aspect to the war. Let’s continue to pray; your prayers are making a difference!

Here is how you can pray:

  • For the salvation of all Israel (Rom. 10:1),  it is time for God’s prodigal son to come home!
  • For the salvation of the Palestinians (1 Tim. 2:1-6),  God is mighty to save!
  • For the hostages who are still held captive in Gaza: pray for divine protection and miraculous release. Praise God for the four who have been released! Click this link for the names of the hostages held by Hamas.
  • For the plans of Israel’s enemies to be confused and brought to nothing (Ps. 33:10)
  • For the hand of God to protect the people of the area (Ps. 127:1)
  • For the believers (in Israel and Gaza) to be strengthened and positioned to assist those in need and minister to them (Eph. 6:19)
  • For God to glorify Himself through this chaos so that the world may know there is a God in Israel (1 Sam. 17:46)
  • For Christians to be protected from anti-Semitism and other forms of hate influenced by media bias (Ps. 137:5-6; Matt. 24:12)

Reflection (Hamas in the Bible):

I visited a Jewish synagogue over the weekend, and the Rabbi spoke about Genesis 6:11:

Now the earth was corrupt in God’s sight, and the earth was filled with violence.
Genesis 6:11

Interestingly, the Hebrew word for violence is חָמָס (hamas). The word is found in the Hebrew Bible about 60 times.

David praised the Lord for delivering him from hamas in 2 Samuel:

The Lord is my rock and my fortress and my deliverer, my God, my rock, in whom I take refuge, my shield, and the horn of my salvation, my stronghold and my refuge, my savior; you save me from violence (hamas).
2 Samuel 22:2-3

Would you join me in prayer for Israel to be delivered from hamas? The Lord is indeed Israel’s rock, fortress, and deliverer!
